On July 31, 2026, the official Hailuo AI account announced MiniMax H3 with the tagline "Toward Open, General-Purpose, Omni-Modal Generation." The official site now labels the model as live, describing native multimodal generation, precise multimodal editing, and production-ready content creation.
This is a launch announcement, not a benchmark. I have not run MiniMax H3 through a test suite, and neither has GeminiOmni. What follows is a verification of what the official sources state, plus a concrete test matrix you can run yourself to decide if the model fits your workflow.
What the Official Sources Confirm
The public model configuration on the Hailuo site lists the following for MiniMax H3:
- Text-to-video and image-to-video modes
- Omni Reference and start/end-frame modes
- 2K output resolution
- Selectable durations from 4 to 15 seconds
The site also claims native multimodal generation and precise multimodal editing. Those are product claims from the vendor. Test these claims yourself before trusting them.
The Test Matrix for Multimodal Creators
Start with these tests, which target capabilities critical to production workflows. Run each test with the same source assets you would use in a real client project, not with generic stock footage.
1. Reference Fidelity
Create a character or object reference image. Generate a video using Omni Reference mode. Then generate the same video again with a different reference image that shares only one attribute (for example, same jacket, different face). Compare whether the model preserves the shared attribute or collapses to the dominant feature.
2. Prompt Adherence
Write a 50-word prompt that includes a subject, an action, a camera movement, and a lighting condition. Generate the same prompt three times. Count how many of the four elements appear in each output. Missing details like lighting or camera moves mean costly reshoots, even if other elements land correctly.
3. Motion Continuity
Generate a 15-second clip with a continuous camera pan. Look for two specific failure modes: object morphing between frames and background stutter. If you see either, test the same prompt at 8 seconds and 4 seconds to see if the issue scales with duration or is duration-independent.
4. Audio Handling
The official announcement mentions omni-modal generation, which implies audio. The site does not list audio-specific modes in the public configuration. Test whether the text-to-video mode produces any audio track, and if so, whether it matches the visual content. No audio? Adjust your workflow accordingly.
5. Duration and Output Consistency
Generate the same prompt at 4, 8, and 15 seconds. Compare the first and last frames of each clip. If the 15-second version drifts from the prompt in ways the 4-second version does not, you have a duration ceiling for that type of content.
6. Workflow Switching Cost
Export one of your existing image-to-video prompts from your current tool. Rebuild it in MiniMax H3's interface. Time the rebuild. If the interface requires you to restructure your prompt syntax or manually set parameters you previously automated, that cost applies to every future project, not just the first one.
Before You Switch: A Controlled First Test
Don't migrate entire projects yet. Start with a single, low-stakes test targeting your biggest risk.
